About Us

In January 2014 with the consensus of the Executive Board, Ms. Marguerite Taylor, President of the Omicron Chi Omega (OCO) Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, appointed an Ad Hoc Foundation Committee for the purpose of conducting research and gathering information necessary to establish a new 501(c)(3), not-for-profit foundation.

Eighteen women of the Chapter volunteered to work diligently to complete this new and exciting venture. An interim Board of Directors and Officers were elected to serve until the foundation’s first annual meeting.

On 04 October 2014, the OCO Foundation Ad Hoc Committee Chairman, Rhonda Scott- Johnson presented a Foundation 101 Overview to the Chapter membership, highlighting a list of required start-up tasks, funding requirements, activities completed and those outstanding. Throughout 2015, the committee conducted extensive research, secured legal and postal services, filed required documents with federal and state officials; created a budget, acquired start-up funding, opened Wells Fargo bank accounts; drafted governing documents, obtained a web domain, and executed many other tasks necessary to establish a foundation. The Foundation Committee held regular meetings and presented updates at both Executive Board and chapter meetings to ensure all activity was transparent and authorized. In addition, Committee members took extraordinary effort to advance our mission forward to include establishing mentor/mentee relationships with other Alpha Kappa Alpha affiliated foundations, attended the Prince William County Chamber of Commerce, Women Leadership Conference, and built the framework for a dynamic, engaging foundation website.
